Wake up this morning, GTI is dead. Jump it with brother's Impretzel, drive to school. Pulling into parking garage, computer starts flashing "low oil pressure - STOP", kill engine, coast into spot, and go to pop the hood. As luck may have it, hood release tab decided to release itself from the latch mechanism, so I get to stuff my sausages up in the crack (huehuehue) and pop it manually (HUEHUEHUEHUE), which takes about 5 minutes (and I'm already running late from having to jump it earlier). Check oil, plenty of it. Fuck. At least the internet says it's not uncommon for the issue to be with the pressure sensors.
2003 24v GTI, for those wondering. Probably pissed that I used electricity from a lowly 4 cylinder to jump it. Mo' valves mo' problems, bruvva.

Nope, running great, and oil changes have been done very regularly. I checked the oil change history thoroughly before I bought it, because bad intervals can lead to timing chain-related death on these. Current oil has about 2k on it and is just starting to get brownish.

I have seen them sludge on very well maintained cars with regular history for some reason...but it is still likely just a sensor in your case. the rest of it though, typical VW :)

Yep, I'm VERY familiar with Vdub life. My first car was an automatic 02 2.0 Beetle, and before this I had a 1.8t GTI with 140k on the clock. Fuckin' Stockholm syndrome.

Tell the boss that for the safety of the worksite and all present you are going to go back home and sit on the front lawn until tomorrow. You should recieve pay since you are actually going to save him money from all the stuff that will self destruct at your mere presence. You can show up, but if you do make him sign a waiver releasing you you from all responsibility of your being present.

I would have so much trouble recommending any remotely performance-oriented VAG product to a friend, but at the same time I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's too damn fun.
